Magdalena Ho Kye-im

About Magdalena Ho Kye-im
Magdalena Ho Kye-im came from Yongin and married into a family living at Bongcheon in Siheung. Her sister-in-law Theresa Yi Mae-im introduced her and her daughters Barbara Yi Chong-hui and Magdalena Yi Yong-hui to Catholicism. Because her husband opposed the religion, they practiced it secretly.
After her daughters established a household in Seoul, Magdalena visited them to receive the sacraments.
She remained committed to Catholicism despite severe punishment during the persecution of 1839.
She was executed outside Seoul’s Small West Gate on September 26, 1839.
Her relatives buried her at Bongcheon. The encyclopedia records later transfers of her remains to a church cemetery in 1938 and to Jeoldusan in 1968.
