About Martha Wang Luo Mande
Martha Wang Luo Mande was a widow from Guizhou who supported herself through farming, an inn, and making straw shoes before becoming Catholic. After baptism in 1852, she worked in a women's religious community, cared for small children, and later managed a seminary kitchen.
When two seminarians and a layman were imprisoned, she brought food, washed clothes, and carried letters for them. She followed them towards execution despite threats from the guards and was killed with them in July 1861. She was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
