Martin Wu Xuesheng

About Martin Wu Xuesheng
Martin Wu Xuesheng was a Chinese catechist from a farming family in Guizhou. He was born in Chuchangbo in 1817 and first supported himself through agricultural work. In 1848, a bishop asked him to help the mission. He later studied medicine and opened a clinic in Duyun, where he experienced imprisonment and expulsion.
Wu continued serving the Catholic mission and was arrested with the missionary Jean-Pierre Néel in 1862. The Holy See records his death on 18 February that year. He was canonized in 2000 among the Chinese martyrs.
