About Mary Zhao Guoshi
Mary Zhao Guoshi was a Catholic woman from Zhaojiacun in Hebei. She is remembered with her daughters Rose Zhao and Maria Zhao, one of whom worked as a catechist. Their shared account centres on the Boxer uprising of 1900.
The three attempted to hide in a well while fleeing attackers. They were pulled out and ordered to renounce their faith, but refused. The church biography describes their deaths at the family cemetery, while also preserving a variant location and an uncertain date.
