About Nectarius the Obedient of the Kiev Caves

Nectarius lived at the monastery of the Kiev Caves during the twelfth century. His short Orthodox notice explains his title “the Obedient” through the diligence of his work and his willingness to follow the guidance of the older monks.

It says that he died peacefully after a life of monastic labor and was buried in the Near Caves associated with Anthony. His individual feast is November 29, and he is also included in the September 28 commemoration of the Near Caves saints. The consulted account gives no precise birth or death year. Its focus is the community’s memory of ordinary work and obedience rather than a detailed personal biography.
