About Paul Chen Changpin
Paul Chen Changpin was born in the Xingren district of Guizhou in 1838. After difficulties within his family, a priest took responsibility for his education and introduced him to Latin. Chen received baptism while a teenager and entered the seminary at Liuchongguan. He did well in Chinese studies but found Latin more difficult.
He was arrested during the persecution of 1861. On 29 July he was executed with fellow seminarian Joseph Zhang Wenlan, the layman John Baptist Luo Tingyin, and Martha Wang Luo Mande. Chen was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
