Paul Ge Tingzhu
About Paul Ge Tingzhu
Paul Ge Tingzhu was born in Xiaotun, Hebei, in 1839. A farmer, he also helped lead his village's Catholic community. During the violence of 1900, he was approached while preparing to begin his agricultural work and was ordered to abandon his faith.
The church account recalls that he refused and was tied to a tree. It also recounts his request to be moved onto his own land so that another landowner would not be implicated. He was killed that year; the consulted accounts disagree about the month. He was canonized in 2000.
