Peter Chong Won-ji

About Peter Chong Won-ji
Peter Chong Won-ji came from Jinjam in Chungcheong Province. His father died as a martyr while Peter was young. After moving between communities, he lived at Peter Cho Hwa-so’s home near Jeonju.
Peter was married. The bishops’ conference gives his birth year as 1845.
The Korean encyclopedia instead gives 1846.
During the persecution of 1866, Peter escaped to a mountain but was captured the next day. He initially denied being Catholic, then renewed his profession of faith after encouragement from Peter Cho. He refused further demands to abandon his religion.
He was executed on December 13, 1866.
