About Peter Liu
Peter Liu Wenyuan was born in Guizhou in 1760 and worked as a farmer. A traveling silk merchant introduced him to Christianity, and he went to Guiyang for further instruction before receiving baptism. His commitment brought persecution and a long period of exile far from home.
The consulted accounts disagree about the beginning and length of that exile. After returning to Guizhou, he was arrested again. The Holy See records his death on 17 May 1834. He was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
