Pimen the Faster of the Kiev Far Caves

About Pimen the Faster of the Kiev Far Caves
Pimen belonged to the Far Caves community at Kiev and served as the monastery’s superior from 1132 to 1141. The Orthodox Church in America’s brief notice remembers him particularly for fasting. It describes a daily discipline that included restraint in thoughts and actions as well as in food.
The account does not offer a detailed childhood history or establish an exact death date. His August 7 commemoration is followed by the collective remembrance of the Far Caves saints on August 28. This Pimen is distinct from the monk of the Near Caves who shared the title “the Faster” and was remembered alongside Kuksha. The different communities and commemorations help keep those identities separate.
