Quadratus is remembered as a Christian martyr in Africa. His name appears in the notices for May 26 collected in the Acta Sanctorum, alongside several other African martyrs. These brief entries preserve a commemoration rather than a narrative of his life.
The manuscripts quoted by the editors do not all give the same list of names. Their discussion records Quadratus among the African martyrs but supplies no secure birth date, death year, or exact settlement. Those details remain unknown.
The older martyrology tradition also associates him with a sermon by Augustine. That connection needs caution: Oxford’s Cult of Saints catalogue identifies Augustine’s Sermon 306B with Quadratus, bishop and martyr of Utica, celebrated on August 21. Those details cannot securely be assigned to the martyr commemorated on May 26.
