Rosa Kim

About Rosa Kim
Rosa Kim was born in Hanyang in 1784 and learned Catholic teaching as an adult.
The encyclopedia describes her becoming a Catholic after she was widowed. She then cared for her mother and younger siblings while practicing her religion.
The bishops’ conference account instead describes a separation from her husband before she lived with a Catholic relative.
Rosa received the sacraments from missionaries and sometimes prepared food for them. She was arrested in January 1839 with Peter Kwon Tug-in’s household and a female relative.
During questioning, she refused to abandon her faith or identify other Catholics.
After severe punishment at the police and criminal courts, she was condemned to death. She was executed with seven other Catholics outside Seoul’s Small West Gate on July 20, 1839.
