About Rose Chen Aijie
Rose Chen Aijie was born in Feng, Hebei, in 1878. She and her older sister Teresa were baptized as children. In July 1900 the sisters joined relatives and friends attempting to escape to another village by cart.
Boxers intercepted the travelers and attacked several of them. The church account recounts that Rose was offered her life if she abandoned her faith; she refused and was wounded. People who later returned found her alive, but she died while being taken toward safety. She was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
