Stachys is remembered in Orthodox tradition among the Seventy Apostles and as an early bishop of Byzantium. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese says Andrew consecrated him and that he led the community for sixteen years. These are claims of later church memory; the source does not provide a contemporary record of his appointment or a reliable birth or death year.
The Orthodox Church in America adds a tradition that Stachys founded a church at Argyropolis and preached there. It describes his death as peaceful. Those details belong to the received account, rather than to an independently dated biography.
Paul greets a beloved Stachys in Romans 16:9. Orthodox tradition identifies the saint with this named early Christian, but the greeting alone does not establish his later office or life story. Remembering both the biblical name and the limits of the surviving evidence keeps the devotion from becoming a claim to knowledge we do not have.
