About Susanna U Sur-im

Susanna U Sur-im came from Yangju in Gyeonggi Province. She married a Catholic man from Incheon and became a Catholic through his encouragement.

She was imprisoned in 1828 and released while pregnant. The church account records lasting pain from the punishment she suffered.

After her husband’s death, Susanna moved to Seoul and supported herself through household work. She later worked for Agatha Yi Kan-nan and practiced Catholicism with her.

During the persecution of 1846, Susanna was arrested with other Catholics. She refused to abandon her faith despite severe punishment and died in Seoul on September 20, 1846.
