Theodore, first Bishop of Rostov

About Theodore, first Bishop of Rostov
Theodore was a Greek bishop remembered as the first bishop of Rostov. The Orthodox Church in America’s account places his consecration in 991 or 992, when Christianity was still being established in the region.
The received account describes opposition to his preaching and says that inhabitants drove him away. He then settled at Suzdal and continued his ministry there. It places his death at Suzdal in 1023. The account also records the preservation of his relics in the city’s churches. His brief personal history concerns these two places of ministry; it supplies no birth date or detailed account of his earlier life.
