About Theresa Kim Im-i

Theresa Kim Im-i came from a Catholic family in Seoul and chose to remain unmarried. After her father died, she lived with relatives and later at Barbara Oh’s home.

She cared for people who were dying or bereaved and worked as a seamstress in a palace.

Theresa helped care for Andrew Kim Tae-gon’s household. After his arrest in 1846, she sought refuge with other Catholic women in accommodation arranged by Charles Hyon Song-mun.

Arrested with Agatha Yi Kan-nan, Catherine Chong Chor-yom and Susanna U Sur-im, she encouraged the others during imprisonment. They refused to abandon their faith and died in Seoul on September 20, 1846.
