About Thomas Son Cha-son

Thomas Son Cha-son came from a Catholic family at Geodeori in Sinri, Chungcheong Province.

During the persecution of 1866, police looted Catholic households after Daveluy’s arrest. When villagers were invited to recover their property at the district office, Thomas went to make a claim. Questioned about his religion, he acknowledged being a Catholic and refused to renounce it. He was arrested and transferred through Haemi to Gongju, enduring severe punishment.

The bishops’ conference dates his death by strangulation in Gongju to May 18, 1866.

The Korean encyclopedia instead gives March 31. His precise death date remains uncertain.
