About Elia Facchini

Elia Facchini was an Italian Franciscan priest who sought missionary work after the suppression of religious institutes in Italy. He reached Taiyuan in 1868 and became closely involved with the local seminary, teaching literature and theology.

The church biography credits him with a Latin-Chinese dictionary and a philosophical and theological compendium. He also served in religious formation at Dongergou before returning to Taiyuan shortly before the persecution of 1900. He died that year. He was killed on 9 July. He was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
