About Joachim Royo
Joachim Royo was a Spanish Dominican sent to the Philippines before entering the Chinese mission in 1715. He was ordained in China and worked under Peter Sanz. After a period in Quanzhou, he travelled to Jiangxi and Zhejiang, serving communities where missionaries had long been absent.
Persecution meant that much of his ministry took place at night and in hiding. He was imprisoned with other Dominican clergy at Fuzhou and died there in 1748. The account remembers a pastoral vocation sustained across many years of insecure travel and shared imprisonment.
