About Joseph Mary Gambaro
Joseph Mary Gambaro entered the Franciscans after schooling at Monte Mesma in Italy. Born Bernardo Gambaro, he received the religious name Joseph Mary during formation. He completed his studies and became a priest before being sent to China.
He arrived in 1896 and initially took responsibility for formation and study at a local seminary. A later appointment brought him to the Catholic community at Yongzhou. His life ended during the violence of 1900. He was killed on 7 July. He was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
