About Justino Orona Madrigal
Justino Orona Madrigal was born in Atoyac, Jalisco, on 14 April 1877. His family's poverty required him to work before entering the seminary. Ordained in 1904, he became parish priest of Cuquío and founded the Poor Clare Sisters of the Sacred Heart to help poor and orphaned girls.
Orona remained with his parishioners during persecution. He and his assistant, Atilano Cruz Alvarado, took refuge at the Las Cruces ranch. Federal troops entered the house early on 1 July 1928 and killed both priests. Orona was canonized in 2000 with the Mexican martyrs.
