About Mateo Correa Magallanes
Mateo Correa Magallanes was born in Tepechitlán, Zacatecas, on 23 July 1866. He studied with the help of a scholarship and was ordained in 1893. His parish appointments included Concepción del Oro and Valparaíso.
During persecution he was arrested several times. In his final imprisonment, a general ordered him to hear prisoners' confessions and then demanded that he disclose their contents. Correa refused to violate the confidentiality of confession. He was executed outside Durango on 6 February 1927. He was canonized in 2000 with the Mexican martyrs.
