Modeste Andlauer

About Modeste Andlauer
Modeste Andlauer was an Alsatian Jesuit priest who studied in seminaries before entering the Society of Jesus. Following ordination, he taught German in several French cities. In 1881, he was sent to China and began language study with other Jesuit missionaries.
His ministry took him to communities in Hebei, including Wuyi. He died during the Boxer uprising in 1900. He was canonized in 2000 with the Chinese martyrs.
