About Paul Liu Hanzuo

Paul Liu Hanzuo grew up in a poor Catholic family in Sichuan and spent his early years tending sheep rather than attending school. Missionaries later encouraged him to enter seminary as an adult. Because Latin proved difficult, he received permission to study philosophy and theology in Chinese.

After ordination, he ministered across several districts, sometimes disguising himself as a trader or farmer to visit Catholics at night. He was arrested while celebrating Mass and died after imprisonment. The consulted church biography preserves conflicting dates for his death, which are recorded without selecting an unsupported precise date.
