About Peter of Jesus Maldonado
Peter of Jesus Maldonado was born in Chihuahua on 15 June 1892. Political conflict interrupted his seminary education, which he eventually completed. He was ordained at El Paso, Texas, in 1918 and later became parish priest of Santa Isabel.
Maldonado taught children and encouraged Eucharistic devotion. On 10 February 1937 armed men arrested him and took him to the municipal offices, where he was severely beaten. He was transferred to a hospital in Chihuahua and died on 11 February. He was canonized in 2000 with the Mexican martyrs.
