About Thaddeus Liu

Thaddeus Liu grew up in a poor Catholic family in Sichuan. After the deaths of his mother and stepfather, he became a priest's assistant and began learning Latin. Seminary study at Luorenggou led to his ordination by Gabriel-Taurin Dufresse in 1807.

He worked in Sichuan and Guizhou before being arrested during a religious gathering in 1821. The church account describes two years in prison while his sentence awaited imperial confirmation. He refused to renounce the faith he had preached and was executed in 1823.
