Biography
Anastasius the Deacon of the Kiev Caves

About Anastasius the Deacon of the Kiev Caves
Anastasius is remembered as a monk, deacon, and martyr of the Kiev Near Caves. The Orthodox Church in America's notice distinguishes several forms of testimony. Manuscript notices call him a deacon, while the hieromonk Athanasius the Sooty identifies him as a brother of Titus the Presbyter. The liturgical service to the fathers of the Near Caves praises his steadfast faith and attributes answered prayer to him. These sources preserve his office, a received family connection, and his veneration within the community. They do not supply exact life dates or describe the circumstances of his martyrdom. Those gaps are left open rather than filled with an imagined persecution narrative.
