Biography
Castor of Karden

About Castor of Karden
Castor is remembered as a priest and hermit who worked near the Moselle. Tradition places his origins in Aquitania and associates his training and ordination with Maximinus of Trier. He lived with companions at Karden and is said to have died there about 400.
His surviving legendary biography was written many centuries later, between the tenth and twelfth centuries. Its account cannot supply contemporary documentation of his ministry.
The veneration of Castor developed around relics at Karden. In 837, a substantial portion was transferred to Koblenz for the church of Saint Castor.
