Brannoc of Braunton

About Brannoc of Braunton
Brannoc of Braunton is remembered in the church dedication of the Devon village that bears his name. Tradition places him in the sixth century and says that he came from south Wales to establish a church there.
The church biography warns that these traditions are unreliable, including the story of his crossing in a stone coffin. Later writers William Worcestre and John Leland recorded his burial at Braunton.
The entry identifies a fourteenth-century transfer of relics to Exeter as the earliest document it cites about him. It considers identification with Brynach unlikely because their commemorations differ.
His remembered identity is therefore kept distinct from that other Welsh saint.
