David of Munktorp
About David of Munktorp
David is remembered as a missionary at Munktorp in Sweden. His origins and early career are uncertain, although tradition describes him as an English monk.
The medieval account says that he preached and baptized people in Västmanland. The church at Munktorp became the centre of his memory.
Much of the detailed later biography came from material fabricated by Nils Rabenius. Those additions cannot establish that David founded a monastery or became the first bishop of Västerås.
The medieval legend predates those fabrications, but it remains a limited witness. David’s established veneration should be distinguished from the elaborate career later constructed for him.
